A WA home adding a battery in 2026 can stack up to three government discounts, often $5,000–$9,000 off. They all come straight off your quote. You don't apply, and you don't wait for a cheque.
| Discount | Who pays it | Typical amount (installed before 31 Dec 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Federal battery rebate | Australian Government | About $258 per kWh, roughly $3,500 on a 13.5 kWh battery |
| Federal solar rebate (STCs) | Australian Government | Roughly $1,700 on a 6.6 kW system in Perth |
| WA battery rebate | WA Government | Up to $1,300 (Synergy) or $3,800 (Horizon Power), plus an optional interest-free loan up to $10,000 |
Worth about $258 per kWh for the first 14 kWh of usable battery, for batteries installed until 31 December 2026. It's paid as certificates (STCs) that we claim and take off your price. Since 1 May 2026, bigger batteries get less for each extra kWh:
| Usable battery size | Rebate per kWh (approx.) |
|---|---|
| First 14 kWh | about $258 |
| 14–28 kWh | about $155 |
| 28–50 kWh | about $39 |
| Over 50 kWh | nothing extra |
| Battery (usable) | Federal rebate (approx.) |
|---|---|
| 10 kWh | $2,580 |
| 13.5 kWh | $3,490 |
| 20 kWh | $4,550 |
The rate falls every six months until 2030. On 1 January 2027 a 13.5 kWh battery drops to about $2,920. Who qualifies: homes and small businesses adding a new, approved battery of 5–100 kWh, with new or existing solar, installed by an accredited installer.
A 6.6 kW solar system in Perth earns about 45 certificates in 2026, worth roughly $1,700 off the price. It shrinks every 1 January and ends after 2030.
| Year installed | 6.6 kW system in Perth (approx.) |
|---|---|
| 2026 | about 45 STCs · roughly $1,700 |
| 2027 | about 36 STCs · roughly $1,370 |
| 2028 | about 27 STCs · roughly $1,030 |
An extra state rebate on top of the federal one: $130 per kWh up to $1,300 for Synergy customers, or $380 per kWh up to $3,800 for Horizon Power customers. The maximum is reached at 10 kWh.
| Your power retailer | WA rebate | Interest-free loan |
|---|---|---|
| Synergy (Perth & South West) | up to $1,300 | up to $10,000 |
| Horizon Power (regional WA) | up to $3,800 | up to $10,000 |
You must join a VPP. To get the WA rebate or loan, you agree to join your retailer's virtual power plant, such as Synergy Battery Rewards. It lets the retailer draw a little power from your battery at busy times, and you're paid for it.
Interest-free loan: households earning under $210,000 combined can borrow up to $10,000 at 0%, repaid over up to 10 years, through Plenti. Limited places: 100,000 rebates, expected to run out around 2027. Rentals qualify with the landlord's written OK.
Synergy pays just 2c per kWh for solar you send to the grid during the day, but charges about 33c per kWh to buy it back at night. That gap is why a battery pays off.
| Time | Synergy pays | Horizon Power pays |
|---|---|---|
| 3pm – 9pm | 10c/kWh | 10c/kWh |
| 9pm – 3pm | 2c/kWh | 3c/kWh (higher in some towns) |
| Rebate | Synergy customer | Horizon Power customer |
|---|---|---|
| Federal solar (STCs) | $1,710 | $1,710 |
| Federal battery | $3,490 | $3,490 |
| WA battery rebate | $1,300 | $3,800 |
| Total off the price | about $6,500 | about $9,000 |
We handle the rest: an approved battery and inverter, installation by our licensed electricians, claiming every rebate and taking it off your price, the WA rebate and loan application, Western Power paperwork and VPP setup.
Figures are estimates as of October 2026. The exact rebate is set on the day your system is installed. Federal rebates are certificates whose market price moves (about $37–$40 each; we've used $38). Feed-in rates and power prices are set by the WA Government and can change each 1 July. Your Phased Power Solutions quote shows your exact rebate, already taken off.
